Meet Joyce Kidulu in Mbale, Uganda working hard to help 57 vulnerable street children
The issue
Joyce Kidulu looks out for 57 ‘street children’ in Mbale, Uganda. They have nothing, no family, no home, no education, just the ragged clothes on their backs, and what little grassroots organisations on the ground can do to help feed them.
One of these is Wise Choices. It is not really their mandate to look after orphaned and abandoned children, but when there is this level of suffering what choice do they have? They are seeking assistance from wherever they can get it.
The challenge
They have put out an appeal for six months of food for the street children, with a budget of $6000 attached to it.
CreateCare Global is always looking for ways in which we can both empower people wanting to help, and to find creative ways in which they can.
We ask people to commit to a small act only. So how could we make it possible to contribute to such a huge ask?
Then we found Jumia!
Small Act
Jumia is an online shopping portal that operates in Uganda for a small delivery cost. We have made up a few staple ‘food packs’ you can purchase below, and have full confidence they will go straight to Joyce and the food she makes into the street children’s stomachs.
What better way is there to act, than to feed a starving child— like William*, 11 years old who has been on the street since he was nine, surviving by carrying luggage. *True name withheld.
